was born in Quebec City, Canada, to an Korean mother and a French-Russian
father who was employed as a consul there for the French government. Eugene
Klementieff, a painter was her grandfather. Pom was her name due to the fact
that it is a symphony of the Korean words "spring" and
"tiger" in Korean. Klementieff spent one year in Canada before her
family moved frequently because of her father's occupation. Before making the
move to France the family resided in Japan and on the Ivory Coast. Klementieff
lost her father to cancer around age five. Her mother was also diagnosed with
schizophrenia. Klementieff was raised in France by her paternal uncle and aunt.
Her uncle, who she called "like [her] father" died at the age of age
18. Klementieff's older brother who committed suicide years later, was also her
aunt. Klementieff was a student at law school for a short time after the death
of her uncle in order to please her aunt, but didn't find the profession path
appealing. In France, she worked as a salesperson and waitress. She started
acting at age 19 at the Cours Florent drama school in Paris. She was just a few
months in studying when she was awarded a theater contest that granted the
opportunity to take two years of free classes with the school's best teachers.
Klementieff was the stepdaughter of Catherine Deneuve in Apres lui (2006) which
was her first acting job professionally. The filming process took three days.
In one scene, she was supposed to push someone down a flight of stairs but fell
down the steps herself, as did director Gael Morel kept that shot for the final
film. Loup (2009) was her first lead role in a film. It is an French movie
about a tribe of Siberian mountain reindeer herders. In the course of filming,
she stayed in a tent, a long way away from the nearest village in which
temperatures fell to well below zero
