Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay, born August 24, 1972 in Long Beach California. DuVernay discovered her love for art from her grandmother Denise. Her aunt was a nurse who stayed overnight so that she could have an opportunity to study literature or theater. DuVernay was first introduced to the film West Side Story by her aunt. Following graduation, DuVernay enrolled at the University of California Los Angeles and earned degrees both in English and African American study. DuVernay was in college when she became attracted to the field of production for the broadcast media. DuVernay was a CBS News intern during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay was appointed to monitor and investigate the residence of a particular Jury member. The duties she was required to perform left her dissatisfied which is why, when she decided to not pursue journalism, she shifted to the field of public relations. DuVernay was employed by a tiny studio as a Junior Publicist right after college. The DuVernay Agency is her first PR agency.
